Las vitaminas del grupo B juegan un rol clave en este sentido. Se trata de ocho vitaminas distintas que están involucradas en los procesos que permiten la obtención de energía a partir de los nutrientes que se incorporan a través de los alimentos.

La carne de pollo nos aporta siete de ellas. Una porción de carne de pollo al día (150 g) cubre, en promedio, el 80% de las necesidades diarias de vitamina B3, la mitad del requerimiento de vitamina B6, y casi un cuarto de la cantidad de vitamina B12 recomendada, entre otras.

Asimismo, cada una de las vitaminas cumplen funciones específicas como colaborar con el desarrollo y funcionamiento del sistema nervioso, contribuir en la producción de glóbulos rojos, mantener la integridad de la piel, proteger la visión, colaborar en la curación de heridas y permitir la correcta formación del material genético de las células (ADN).

Se pueden encontrar ampliamente distribuidas en los alimentos. Las fuentes más comunes son las carnes en general, entre ellas la carne de pollo, huevos, lácteos, cereales integrales, legumbres, frutos secos y algunos vegetales de hoja verde oscura.

La carne de pollo dado a su contenido de vitaminas del grupo B, junto con su aporte de otros minerales como cinc, hierro, selenio, magnesio y cobre, es un alimento importante y protector de carencias.
